FWC Proposes Expanding Shrimp Harvesting Opportunities in Northeast Florida
During its February meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) proposed rule changes to increase shrimp harvesting opportunities in northeast Florida.
Key proposed changes include:
- Raising the dead shrimp allowance for commercial live bait harvesters from 1 gallon to 5 gallons.
- Opening a section of Pumpkin Hill Creek (Duval County) for commercial and recreational shrimp harvesting from the Nassau River to Tiger Point (30°30.0783’ N latitude) during September through December.
FWC staff will continue gathering public input on these proposed changes ahead of a final rule hearing scheduled for the May 2025 Commission meeting. Those interested in providing feedback can submit comments online at MyFWC.com/SaltwaterComments or via email at Marine@MyFWC.com.
