Saturday I went Jet Ski Fishing out of Griffin Marine Park in Ft Lauderdale. I was targeting Snook and Mangrove Snapper. I went west in the canal to some backwater mangrove area but found no fish. The only thing I was was a snake in the water! I decided to make my way east through Las Olas where boat traffic is extremely heavy. No chance of fishing with all the boat traffic.
When I got to the Ft Lauderdale Sand Bar it was either fish the bay or go out the pass, I choose the pass. Waves were 2-3 foot but I had heard 3-4 but I don’t believe it was that bad. I started near shore about as far as the pier goes out with no luck. I decided to go deeper to a waypoint I had on my Garmin at about 50 feet. I was throwing artificial shrimp and a root beer and yellow swimbait with no luck. I decided to try my luck trolling with a medium weight casting spoon and went all the way out to about 90 feet and no action. After bouncing around different spots I decided to try almost live shrimp that I had picked up before heading out. I decided to try some bottom structure at 30-40 feet. It was getting later in the day and the bite started. first I picked up a Small Jack
then shortly after I picked up a Yellow Tail Snapper
Then a few Red Mouth Grunts probably should have kept some but they will be there next time. It was getting late and the bite seemed to be slowing down so I started my long idle back to Griffin Marine Park.
When I arrived at Griffin Marine Park I tied up to the dock and went to retrieve my truck and trailer. The problem was only my truck was there! Yep Someone stole my trailer! Nothing can let the gas out of a good day by some deadbeat stealing your stuff. I called the Police did a police report and called my insurance company. Now to figure out how to get my Jet Ski out of the water. I can’t leave it at the dock so I called Broward Motor Sports where I bought the Jet Ski. The sent a service guy to to pick up my Jet Ski and bring it back to their shop! I can’t say how thankful I was that they were helping me out. Obviously I had to buy another trailer and finished a long day with a beer! Tight Lines and Better Days!
